CHITRAL : The ‘Mother and Child week’ was kicked off here on Tuesday during which the targets will be approached in all the twenty four union councils both districts of Upper and Lower Chitral in which 483 ladies health workers will take part supported by the paramedical staff of the health department.
In a preparatory meeting held in the office of district health officer with Dr. Fayaz Rumi, district coordinator of Immunization Program, it was told that due to some reasons, three of the four activities of the week have been deferred leaving behind only mass awareness about health and hygiene.
It was said that the other three activities included vaccination of the children upto two years missing it, providing anti-worm medicines to the children of 3 to 5 years of age and giving anti-tetanus injections to the pregnant women.
He said that a lecture will be delivered in each village about health and hygiene in which the community members will be told about ways and principles to ward off the diseases and lead a healthy life and that how an individual can play his or her role in this achieving this end.
It was urged that the target people should be educated about the importance of polio vaccination and make them known about the chain of negative propaganda by certain elements who were either ill-informed or they become stooge of others.
