CHITRAL: Chitral Police has traced and recovered five numbers of vehicles which had been stolen from Karachi and were registered as non-custom paid vehicles in Malakand Division after tempering with their chassis numbers.

The district police officer captain (retired) Furqan Bilal told the media persons in his office here on Saturday that the manufacture of the vehicles included Toyota Hiace, Land Cruiser and Datsun which had either been snatched or stolen from different localities of Karachi in the period between 1994 to 2004 and were recently registered under the garb of non-custom paid vehicle.

He said that the chassis numbers of the vehicles were tempered with by changing the either some of the first digits or the last ones to hoodwink the officials of registration authority in Malakand Division.

He said that the forgery surfaced when the local police scrutinized the details of the vehicles which matched with the vehicles of the stolen and snatched vehicles and during the course of further inquiry, the chassis numbers were found tempered and the vehicles were taken into custody.
