CHITRAL: Complete shutter-down strike by the traders community in Chitral here on Wednesday has started against the attitude of district administration for introducing one-way traffic system in the bazaar and imposing fabulous fines on them to the tune of Rs. 100 thousand and more.
All the outlets of business, small and large, have been closed for indefinite period till the acceptance of demand while the drivers fraternity has announced to join the traders in the strike by starting wheel-jam strike from Thursday which will further aggravate the situation in the city for the public.
The traders staged sit-in in PIA chowk against the district administration which was addressed by the leaders of the traders including Shabbir Ahmed, president of Tajjar Union who said that keeping in view the small volume of traffic in the city, there was no need of introducing one-way traffic system which has rendered hundreds of shop keepers in the Shahi Bazaar, New bazaar and Atalique Bazaar jobless.
He said that after the beginning of the new system, all the people coming for shopping preferred the by-pass road for shopping as a result of which the sale in the three old bazaar has come to a naught.
The traders’ leader alleged that the additional assistant commissioner imposed heavy and obnoxious fines on the shop keepers on flimsy grounds which had affected the shop keepers who were already suffering.
The president of Terich Mir Drivers Union, Sabir Ahmed while addressing on the occasion, announced to start wheel jam strike to lend support to the traders community who were fight for their just rights.
