CHITRAL: Sarsabzo Shadad Pakistan, Pak Army’s forestation campaign kicked off here on Monday in Chitral by planting deodar saplings in the premises of Osama Shaheed Park near Chitral city.
Commandant of Chitral Task Force colonel Moeenuddin and district nazim Chitral Maghfirat Shah addressed a gathering of the elites of the city, civil and military officers and the students of local schools.
They said that plantation on mass scale was the only panacea for the global warming which intimidated those living the planet of Earth while some of its negative effects have manifested themselves in the form of climate change and scarcity of water.
They said that the shortening of winter season and extended summer season in Chitral over the years have given birth to a number of issues making glacial lakes outburst floods a common phenomenon which were unheard of in the past.
They expressed the hope that the civil society will join the campaign with full earnestness and zeal and play their role in averting the impending dangers and risks due to environmental degradation.
Later on, those attending the function planted saplings of deodar in different portions of the park.
