PESHAWAR: The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has endorsed the notification of Election Commission of Pakistan regarding declaring 25thJuly 2018 as public holiday. The notification issued by Election commission of Pakistan states “ In exercise of powers under Article 218 of the Constitution read with Section-4 and Section-8 (c ) of the Elections Act, 2017 and all other powers enabling it in that behalf, the Election Commission of Pakistan has declared public holiday on 25th July, 2018 in the country in order to enable the voters to exercise their right of franchise freely and conveniently.”
Meanwhile the competent authority has established the “Election Coordination Cell” in the Home Department for General Election, 2018 with immediate effect. The Telephone numbers 091-9210300 and 091-9210036 will be available (24/7) for registration of complaints/issues relating to Law & Order as well as Election Code of Conduct to all concerned including general public. It was notified by Home & Tribal Affairs Department Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
A high level meeting regarding preparation for general Elections 2018 was held with Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the chair. The meeting discussed the attendance of all the polling staff for elections duties. The PEC Khyber Pakhtunkhwa underscored the need for sensitizing the polling staff by their respective head of Departments with a special focus on the female polling staff as non-availability of female staff has been a major concern in previous elections. It was decided in the meeting that Secretary Local Government to coordinate with all Heads of Departments to ensure that all the polling staff from their Departments are formally instructed about ensuring their presence for all the duties assigned to them regarding elections.
