Pakistan’s principled stance on Iran-Israel conflict receives widespread admiration

PESHAWAR (APP): Pakistan’s principled and balanced stance on the recent Iran-Israel conflict has drawn widespread praise from political analysts and foreign policy experts, who lauded the country’s rational and mature response during a critical regional crisis.

Experts characterized Pakistan’s approach as grounded in justice and international law, particularly in the aftermath of heightened military confrontations between Iran and Israel that have significantly undermined peace and stability in the Middle East.

Babar Khakan Ghilzai, a professor at Bahauddin Zakariya University in Multan, said that the Pakistani leadership demonstrated great wisdom, prudence and restraint in addressing the alarming situation.

He emphasized that Israel’s strikes on Iranian targets constituted a blatant violation of Iran’s sovereignty and international legal norms.

“The recent escalation between Iran and Israel has plunged the Gulf region into a new phase of uncertainty,” Dr. Khaqan said. “Pakistan’s response is rooted in the principles of international justice, law and reflects a rational diplomatic understanding in the wake of evolving geopolitical and security dynamics in the region.”

He observed that while Pakistan is not a party to the conflict, but still it remains affected as evident of rise in petroleum products due to Iran-Israel conflict besides its geographical proximity and strategic significance.

Babar Khakan also highlighted Pakistan’s deep and enduring defense partnership with China, which he said is essential for regional stability.

“Our cooperation with China is not limited to arms procurement. It includes joint ventures, technology sharing, and capability enhancement in several critical domains in the wake of CPEC.”

He cited recent additions to Pakistan’s defense arsenal, including the HQ-19 ballistic missile defense systems, KJ-500 airborne early warning platforms, and advanced fighter jets like the J-10C, which are equipped with PL-15 and PL-17 air-to-air missiles.

These systems, with ranges exceeding 250 and 400 kilometers respectively, significantly enhance Pakistan’s aerial combat capabilities.

“The PL-10 short-range missile also strengthens Pakistan’s ability in close-quarters air combat,” he added.

“Together, these systems have given Pakistan a clear aerial superiority edge, particularly in the context of regional threats.”

Babar Khakan emphasized that these developments serve as a firm signal of Pakistan’s readiness and strategic deterrence, especially in response to regional rivalries.

“Pakistan’s defense posture is not symbolic; it is a well-calibrated, modern doctrine designed to preserve peace and national sovereignty.”

Referring to the recent military “Operation Iron Wall,” Khaqan said Pakistan demonstrated its robust capabilities across air, land, sea, and cyber domains, effectively deterring hostile intentions.

He reiterated that Pakistan’s nuclear doctrine is rooted in safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity and was not as a reactionary measure, but as a proactive strategy for ensuring lasting peace and deterrence in the region.

Khakan called for greater diplomatic engagement at international forums, and urged Pakistan to expand cooperation with China in areas such as cybersecurity, satellite intelligence, and artificial intelligence.

He also emphasized the need for the swift completion of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Meanwhile, former Ambassador Manzoorul Haq strongly condemned Israel’s military actions, describing them as “abhorrent and in clear violation of international law.”

Speaking to APP, he said the attacks undermined the regional security architecture and violated the UN Charter.

“These strikes have shaken not just the foundations of international law, but also the conscience of humanity,” he said.

“It is imperative that the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, take immediate action to halt hostilities and protect innocent civilians.”

Ambassador Manzoorul Haq praised the recent resolution passed by Pakistan’s National Assembly condemning the Israeli aggression.

“It was a bold and appropriate step that reflected the sentiments of the Pakistani people and their solidarity with the government and people of Iran.”
